Hi!
First time posting here, but I have a dilemma concerning my 1973 Mini.

Mechanically speaking it is in great condition and I’ve always kept it in good running order.
However there has been some rust issues under the body since it got little use during the last few years (due to COVID period).
I brought it to my Mini mechanic and after he started he found more rust than initially thought and mentioned the overall cost to repair the rust (roughly 2 weeks of welding) wasn’t really worth it.
Since he started it is about 2 days remaining (welding) of work for the minimum to keep it drivable (drivers door/wheel well reattachment).
So since it’s 50 years old this April I no longer need an APK and could drive it for a year (two at most) before it becomes unsafe to drive at faster speeds.
I either need to sell it as a hobby project/parts or find a cheaper way to get the welding work done.
I’m not too familiar with with the auto scene in NL, but maybe someone knows of places where students or hobbyists work on these types of things for fun or school credits?
I hate to see my Mini go, but I’m out of known options unless someone else has ideas for me.

Hi Art,
Any mini is worth saving. I've looked at the photo's you've placed. Mini's all get some rust now and then. And every bit can be replaced bij a new piece. Most of the panels are still available and there are also possibillities to prevent rust from going further into a piece of steel.
If you let us know what region of the Netherlands you live, it will be easier to get you to the right person that can help you.
Cheers, Bram
